Positions
PM (aka Process Manager, Project Evangelist)
It's a key role for us. Traditionally you'd call this a Project Manager, but a more apt name would probably
be 'Process Designer'
(we're big on "design" after all). For our big, big clients we need you to help keep the communications
flowing. What are their goals, when do they need them met, and how are they feeling?
For most of our crazy startup friends we need you focused more internally at ZURB to make sure our agile
production teams are striking the right balance day-to-day.
Overall you've got to be a good communicator, have a way with the written word,
and be a really neat person to work with.
Designer of Interfaces
In our experience visual problem solving (UI design) is a really tough skill to get right. You have to enjoy talking
with peopleboth clients and customersto understand their goals and needs and then somehow translate
those goals and needs into something that works. This isn't rocket science, but it does take good interface fundamentals
and empathy for people to make a good series of screens happen.
Beyond this touchy-feely part, we need you to be good at sketching and know nuts and
boltswriting good clean XHTML and thrifty CSS to help create clickable prototypes
and finish off live production work (think of a client with 33 million users calling you
up at the last minute with a display problem). You should also be a pretty good writer.
Designer of Visuals
We'd really love to find somebody with a knack for illustration and a peculiar interest in icon design.
A strong visual can communicate an idea or engage a person to click as good as anything.
So illustration would be your special skill, but we still need a web-savvy generalist out of anybody wearing this hat.
You should be able to write web pages in XHTML and CSS and understand how to build a well-structured web page.
Like all of our other team members, good writing skill is key.
Writer of Neat Things
Also known around here as 'Master of Conversations' (and not just because it abbreviates to "MC").
We want a team member who can help design the written content of the sites, applications, emails and
other customer touchpoints we create for ZURB and for our clients. In particular you've got to know
how to write for the webbe concise, be human, and be memorable. If you know a little something
about Cluetrain you probably know a bit of what we're talking about (even though Cluetrain is a bit
cliché to reference in a job post like this).
