As ZURB's resident print design expert, Kurtis Derry adds another dimension of visual communications
force to ZURB.
What's your story? What kind of companies did you work with before joining team ZURB?
Some companies you may have heard of, and others that are a bit less well know. I've done design work for
biggies like Nissan and Oakley, as well as regionally- or industry-known companies like Landor Designs,
Aspen Medical Products, the Port of Long Beach, Curry Design, and H.E.B. Grocery Stores. From eyewear to
eggplant, it's been a great ride so far.
Were you born with this print prowess, or did you get some training along the way?
I went to California State University at Long Beach where I went the complete overachiever route,
getting dual bachelor’s degrees in fine arts (graphic design) and art. That's in addition to my
minor in marketing. There were some days when I thought I'd never finish school, my course load
was so tough, but I'm glad to say I made it through in one piece.
Anything else you'd like to share?
I'm the original Karate Kid. Really. My favorite food is peas and I'm deathly afraid of umpa lumpas.
