Please do jobs in InDesign. We have CS3. If you're using CS4, please backsave. Send us InDesign files, fonts, and linked graphics along with a pdf created using our Distiller Setting.
Before you make the pdf:
- Install this plugin into: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe pdf/Settings
- Delete all unused swatches from the colour palette.
- In InDesign, go to > Window > Output > Separations Preview. From the View pulldown, select Separations. On the 2c jobs, turn off the PMS and black in the palette - nothing should be showing. If it is, it needs to be changed! On the 4c jobs, you should only have CMYK.
- Run the preflight function from InDesign, then package the file.
- Include your pdf with that package.
On the pieces that are printing offset (invites and envelopes):
- Jobs are 2 colour - 1 PMS and black
On the pieces that are printing digital (map, brochure, staggered inserts, and labels):
- You can use 4 colour process. In the InD file, using the Ink Manager, select "convert spots to process", so that your PMS swatch is converted to CMYK. You can check this by using the Separations Preview - only CMYK will show.
- Be sure all black is 100% black, not RBG or any combination therein.
Notes from our call:
- PMS swatches will come out better. Let's pick the swatches before printing.
- Keep address on the front if returned envelopes are important to us.
